Who am I talking to? Am I talking to myself? I think I am. Do I think that this conversation might be useful to others, or do I want to profit from my work here, attempting to elucidate the mysteries of the universe via an attempt to understand why I am and am not a cruel person, why there is such disturbing lack of kindness within me?
Or is this a trick I am playing on myself?
It’s certainly not a trick I’m playing on you, unless it is.1 Do I think this conversation is worth money? Do I think this conversation is worthy? Do I think this conversation is beautiful? Do I think it is wise?
To think I know what it is, that’s hubris. So, would all self-knowledge be hubris? Yes, but there is no way I could say with any certainty, unless I succumb to that hubris, which I don’t want to do.
But why?
